Praise and Prayer

One year ago yesterday we had been in the Pittsburgh Children's Hospital with Jaren for several days. But we got the wonderful news that Jaren's blood counts had come up a long ways! All the praise goes to God for his healing.
So yesterday we decided to make it a celebration day. We left for town and was going to do some special things. Jaren had been fussy but we didn't think much of it till we realized he couldn't stand up straight and kept crying and pointing to his diaper. Thinking he needed changed I checked and found that it was afternoon and he still hadn't urinated. His stomach was hard and I knew we had a major problem. So off to the hospital we went and we found out that he had a blockage. They did a bladder scan and he had 405ML of urine which at his age he should go at 100ML. So he was MISERABLE! The ER was able to give him relief but is referring us to PIT Children's Urologist. Jaren's appt is Monday at 11am. In the mean time we have to make sure everything doesn't close off again or we have to take him in again. If this is still an issue on Monday the have said he may have to have surgery to fix the problem. I don't think they would do it on Monday but it would then be scheduled.
So once again your prayers would be appreciated on Jaren's behalf and his mommy and daddy's too.

We are very excited to know the gender and that we are having a girl. The Dr. was pleased that the baby was still on schedule after all the sickness I have had in the last 2 weeks. Here is an ultrasound pic taken today and so I put the original on and a zoomed in version of it.

Finally feeling a little more normal health wise. So I am very Thankful for that and also that my mom has arrived for a week. We were all very happy to see her last night, but Jaren was extremely happy to see her. He just kept smiling and reached for her.
Next week is filled with Dr. visits for me. I go Monday to the specialist and Wednesday for my ultrasound and OB visit. Hoping little Bean cooperates and we can find out what we are having.

I told Dan the other day I didn't when I was ever going to get better. :) Being so sick during this pregnancy again and then Thanksgiving night got very sick and have been since. So going into day 6 of this. Sat. night my Stomach cramps had been bad enough that my OB Dr. wanted me to go to Labor and Delivery and make sure all was okay with the baby. Got there and then it took 25 min to find the heart beat because the baby was in a weird spot I guess. Once they did it was 160 which was good. They also monitored me to make sure the cramping wasn't labor. After all that checked out okay they sent me home and told me to go to the Dr. office Monday if still having problems, which I was. Once again they made sure all was okay with baby and the Dr. got the heart beat right away! They think because I am pregnant that it is taking a lot longer to get over whatever I have. If this is not clearing up by tomorrow then I have to have more testing done. Praying I am over this by then. So far to day has been a little better so that's good.
Jaren is not liking the idea of Mommy being down physically and not able to do much but he and Dan are coping. In exciting news my Mom is coming Friday night to be here for a week. We are very happy to be able to see her, but it is too bad my dad couldn't come too.

The other day was very nice. So we went out for a while and these pics are some of the fun Jaren had.

In other news I went to the Dr. today and we got to hear the heartbeat. I am 16 1/2 weeks now so nearing the 1/2 way point. I am still pretty sick so they are keeping me on Zofran until that subsides which is hopefully soon. Dr. Says everything is going well other than my sickness. :)

Just thought I would post on here that we are having a baby due around April 24, 2012. We are very excited and my due date is 1 week after Jaren's 3rd Birthday. I have been very sick but hoping that start to subside soon. It makes things very different this time around with a little one running around. I am currently 9 1/2 weeks.

Here is a link to be able to follow what is happening with this little boy. I can't imagine what his Parents, John and Ada, are going through. I know what it was like having Jaren in the hospital for 5 days and getting answers, but this would be so hard. Please help in Praying for this little guy. He needs our prayers desperately as well as his parents and extended family.

Dan has been teaching at the Pleasant Hills AWM School this past year and we were voted Senior Sponsors. This last Wed-Sat we went to D.C., Delaware and N.J.

dan's trip to Haiti

March 16th – 22nd Dan went to Haiti for his sister’s wedding and while there stayed at the Alleghany Thomonde Mission. Sharon, Dan’s Sister has been working in a Children’s home there in Haiti and Dan spent a couple days there. The children loved the attention he gave them and they kept calling him “papa, Papa” which is Creole for Daddy.

On Saturday March 19th was the wedding and Dan had the privilege of giving Sharon away as their Dad was unable to make it. It was a very interesting day as there were many different things about the wedding with it being a Haitian wedding. I am hoping to post a slide show of his trip shortly but having the time to do that is the problem.

On Sunday Morning Dan went with Hansel Young to a mountain church for their service. They wanted Dan to give his testimony in that service and he said the views were beautiful. They go to these churches by means of a 4- wheeler and on the way back he got to drive.

That evening he was asked to preach there at the Thomonde church and God helped him preach through Hansel interpreting. That was a neat experience for both of them because they are good friends.

Monday was supposed to be a relaxing day but when they got up there was a lot of yelling in the street. Come to find out the local election in the town of Thomonde had upset several people and they were many on both sides upset. Soon some started shooting and the Missionaries several times got on the floor of the house because they didn’t know where the shots were going to. Eventually the U.N. arrived on the scene and things were calmed down. Later they found bullet parts and a few dents in the home of the two Heidi’s that are living down there. It ended up being a very nerve racking day to say the least. Later in the afternoon Dan got bite by one of the Mission dogs so they had to clean that out really well. Needless to say they didn’t get much sleep Monday night for fear of another shoot out because that evening the culprits were released from jail. Fortunately no one was killed that they know of.

Tuesday morning Dan was able to make it to the Airport in Port and fly back home to the USA. So we have spent the last couple weeks getting back to normal around here and being nurse to Dan’s dog bite. We are very thankful to have him State side again.

Jaren's latest Blood Counts

Just want to let you all know that Jaren has been cleared at this point. His Blood Counts are back above Normal and we are Praising God for that. He is not out of the woods in the fact that the next time he gets sick we have to have blood work done to makes sure this is not a cycle illness. In that case he would be diagnosed with Cyclic Neutropenia. A Childhood illness that he will grow out of but would be in the hospital every time he got sick and numbers Dropped. If that is all we have to deal with then we would be great-full.

Jaren spent the last 5 days between Beaver Medical center and PIT Children's hospital. I will post later about all of that. It was a rollercoaster ride I don't want to face again. His Blood counts went low and some scary names of illnesses went around but the counts are coming up now. So hoping things stay up. Continue to pray for him and us!

We are in Montana with some of my family right now. It is cold, snowy and icy, but we are enjoying our time. Last saturday we took the kids to McCormick Park, those from Missoula would know where I am talking about. Anyway it is not much of a hill but the kids really enjoyed it. This week it is too cold really to have the kids out much. around 0 at night and high of 10 today. Hopefully when we get home I will be able to get some pics on here of our trip.

Just want to say Merry Christmas to everyone. Had a good day. We did Christmas yesterday and today with Dan's Family and then drove home from MI to open our gifts here tonight. It was so fun watching Jaren open his gifts.

One Sick little Boy

Well this has been one incredibly long week. Monday Jaren started running a fever of 102.5 and with meds and all it was not coming down. Monday night it went up to 103.6 and the next morning, despite the snow on the roads we slowly went to the dr. He didn't find a certain thing wrong with him so we came home.
Tuesday night I did not get to bed for the 1st time till 6am. Jaren was up most of the time. Dan went on to school that morning but I called him around 10am to have him come home so we could take Jaren in again. The Dr. office wanted us to go to the hospital because Jaren would need treatments that the Dr. office couldn't give him. SO we spent several hours there. He was diagnosed with severe Croup and we were sent home with Steroids and Breathing treatments.
He is doing better but when we went back to the Dr. today they gave him more steroids to make sure the swelling stays down around his voice box. Croup is the baby's form of Laryngitis. He seems to be on the mend but this Mommy will be glad when it is over.

I know that Winter has not officially begun but we have had snow since Wednesday morning and it is snowing right now. Jaren really doesn't know what to think of the cold, wet stuff on the ground. He is liking it more now. The first day we went out and he was kinda scared. Maybe just because it was different.

The odds to having the cold means Jaren doesn't get to go out much. He loves the outdoors and he cries at the door wondering why he can't go out. So I guess we have to settle going to the Mall more and letting him walk around with his harness on.

Tonight I he got on the Piano Bench and was flipping thru pages of my songs and then he would play a little and then turn to another page and play some more. I got some pics of him doing that. Now I need to get them all downloaded.

What a Day! I was in the kitchen this afternoon and Jaren was headed for hte living room. He tripped or something and fell. I went to make sure he was alright. NO! I found him unresponsive, not breathing, eyes rolled and glazed. I started screaming "Breathe!" and yelling for Dan to call 911. I started shaking him and and went outside into cool air. By the time Dan got a hold of 911 I had Jaren Breathing a little and whimpering. We decided to take him in our car to the hospital. They did a CT Scan and everything checked out okay. Where he hit is right by his temple so Dr. said with it being a sensitive area that is probably why he got knocked out. So today we are Thanking the Lord for our little boy. HE is absolutely fine today. He has been running around as normal. His newest attempt, after getting home from the hospital, is trying to climb on the table. When things like this happen it makes you realize just how much you appreciate your family.

Had quite the eventful day yesterday. Was cooking lunch and was frying potato cakes. One of them slipped off my hand and dropped into the HOT oil. Resulting a rushed trip to Urgent Care. The Dr. said I have at least 10 2nd degree burns from my wrist to close to my elbow. SO now I have 3 weeks till it will heal and in the mean time very little use of my right arm. My Grandma is coming tomorrow to help for a few days.

We have been pretty busy recently. I am almost done with Canning. I have a 19pound Pumpkin that I need to cook and then can. Hoping for 12 pints at least. That is what I got last year from a one about the same size.
Jaren of course has been keeping us busy. It seems every day he is into something else. He loves to stand on top of his truck but usually gets off before I cam snap a picture.
Dan is teaching 2 days a at the Pleasant Hills Allegheny Christian school. He is enjoying it. His main thing he works with is the High School Math and English, but he also helps with P.E.

Tomorrow Starts a new phase in the life of my Sis-in-law, Sharon Hellmann. She is moving to Haiti to work at a Childrens Home. We are Excited for her, yet we are going to miss having her just a phone call away. She has had this calling upon her life since a child. Please Pray with us that God will bless her ministry and those she comes in contact with. Also that God will keep His hand of protection on her.

Just wanted to Give a quick update on the happenings in our lives.
The end of May we headed out on Vacation to Florida, Georgia and Indiana and all the states in between Hoping to get a slideshow up soon of those pics. In Georgia we spent some time with Dan's Sister and Brother, as Sharon is moving to Haiti fulltime next week. It was so good to be together. All we were missing was Tim's Wife and baby, Sarah and Noah.

Then this past week we were privileged to once again be team leaders at our Youth Camp in Greenfield, IN. This is always a very tiring but rewarding time. The theme this year was- Dream Big with God! Studying the life of Joseph. Our team came in 2nd this year. the 2 teens we took with us got Boy and Girl Camper of the year. That means they were all around helpful, and tried their best at everything.

We will now be home for a little while before the next camp starts for us.

Well spent a few hours in the ER last night with Jaren. He woke up about 4:30 screaming in pain. I rushed in and when I picked him up I knew he was burning up. Temp of 104.5. He was kind of limp and not breathing right. Called Dr. and took him in. Diagnosis- Ear infection. By the time we left the hospital it was down to 101.5. We are thanking God that at this point it's only an ear infection.

Sorry we didn't take the camera. When you are frantically racing around that is the last thing you think of. He seems to be doing ok now. I have to go get antibiotics today.

Awesome Sunday Service

God came in our service this morning and 2 people that we have been praying for got saved. God is so good. We feel like we are entering a new phase in our church. Everyone is encouraged and more excited. It is amazing how things change when you see things like that.

Keep praying for our little church. We just might be on the verge of a growth spurt with todays happenings.

We give God all the praise.

This was our 1st day in the Dominican Republic. Sis Middleton and I were sitting in the truck while Bro. Middleton and Dan were visiting someone in the hospital. This man was selling shirts and since the sun was hot he used some of them to shield his head from it. This is very common in the D.R. as many do not have vehicles so they sell their items by walking or riding a large tricycle. Sometimes you still see a horse and cart.

This is Cecila and Jaren. She had such a bright smile and Jaren took to her right away. This was the 1st service we were in and it was a house service or what we would call Cottage Prayer meeting. Every time we would see Cecila, Jaren would go right to her. I love being around her.

WE still have our almost 2 feet of snow and now they are telling us we are getting another one on Tuesday that might bring another 7 or more inches. Mr. Phil the Groundhog was not kidding when he predicted the 6 more weeks of winter.

Here are a few pictures of Jaren recently. Also He had a Dr. Appt yesterday and he is a growing boy. He weighs 19 lbs 4 ozs and is 29in. Dr. said everything is going great. He does go to an allergist next Monday to see if he has allergies. He has had a consistant runny nose and cough for several months now. Antibiotics are not helping and he doesn't act sick. Since Dan has severe Allergies then the Dr. said to go ahead and get Jaren checked out. We have to go to the Ext. of Childrens Hospital in Cranberry for that Appt.

Dominican Update

Hola,

Hi from the land of humid days and sticky nights!!! :) We will be flying home on Thursday but wanted to give a quick overview of our trip. We arrived here about 11:45pm and had to wait for 15min on the jetway waiting for our stroller which after that time we found out that they had taken it to customs and we would find it at Baggage claim. So we had to go thru all the hassle of Travel visas, Immmigration, and other things carrying Jaren. We then met up with the Middletons in this great mass of people. Then we were on our way home.

The next day (Tuesday) we went to do some sightseeing and try to get adjusted to a foreign country.

Wednesday we went shopping at a store that is kind of like Walmart as in it has anything and everything. We had house service that night in the home of some people that come to the church here at Middletons.

Thursday we went to Hato Viejo where Dan Spoke thru Bro. Middleton. It went very smooth considering that it was his first time to speak thru interpreter.

Friday Night started the Youth Convention at the KM 32 church. the very small church was packed out and you would think you couldn't fit anymore in. There was about 70 there. Also Friday we were privileged to get to meet Bro. Winfield Poe who was in Haiti and coming over to fly out of Santo Domingo. We had a nice visit with him.

Saturday night it was rainy so there was not as many but still there was in the 50s It Think.

Sunday morning Dan spoke for Bro Middleton here in the city church which is here in their house.
Sunday night we were back at KM 32 again to finish the Youth conv. As I said before I didnt think you could fit many more than 70 well there was close to 100 if not over. It is very hard to count that many faces when kids are sitting on top of other kids just to all squeeze on the bench. God's Presence was so real in all the services. The people were very attentive. God gave Dan the messages that fit for the people so well and was right where they needed it. It is amazing when you have never seen these people and in a different country yet God can speak just the same as anywhere else. Dan stressed over and over that in heaven there would not be a language barrier for us and we would be able to communicate freely. They really liked that Idea.

yesterday (monday) we went to the market to get some items to bring home. We also went to pass out clothes to the children in a poor village. Our church people had brought in used clothing for us to bring down.

Today we are getting the house ready for a lot of company. Bro and Sis Tim Young, their boys and Carla are bringing Bro and Sis Cope, Chad and Alexia Hunting and Stephanie here to spend the night before they fly home from Santo Domingo tomorrow. Youngs are buying food here since they cannot buy food in Port au Prince. So Middletons will have a house full of 15 people. We will enjoy visiting with all of them.

Well there is many more stories but this is just an overview of our trip.

Dominican Republic

In less than a week we will be flying to the Dominican Republic for 10 days. It will definiately be a new experience. We will be with David and Marliyn Middleton while there and working in their churches. Dan will be speaking Wed. night Bible study, Thursday night service and then preaching a Youth Convention Fri- Sun. the following Monday we then have a couple days to relax and spend some time doing other things and helping the Middletons with any projects that are needed.
I just hope Jaren does well on the trip. We are really looking forward to be there. I sure have lots to do in the mean time. Pray for us as we go and work with these precious People. Our Trip is January 11-21.

Hi all, we just got back from our trip to MT and WY. We had a wonderful time with my family. We were all together for the 1st time since July 08. We also had a picture done at Sears. We have never had that done as a family.
Dan got to go Hunting with the Hunters on Wed and Sat. He didn't have a tag but enjoyed going along. Sat my sis shot a buck and Dan was able to see the process 1st hand. My Bro also shot a buck on Fri. Hope to get my pic put on here soon.

Trip to Michigan

A couple of weeks ago we went to MI for a Rally/Marriage Retreat. Bro and Sis Rodger Stearns was the speakers for the retreat and Dan and Bro Stearns traded services at the 2 Wesleyan Holiness Churches in MI. The services were wonderful and the Retreat was Great. THe retreat was at a place called The Shack, but was anything but a shack. It was back in the woods and most if not all the buildings were log. Very beautiful place. It was also right beside a lake.
It was good to be with the people at Shepherd and St. Louis Churches. We are praying for the St. Louis Church as it is coming up on a year since they have been without a pastor. Please help us pray for them they are such dear sweet people who need a pastor. I wanted to get pictures of both churches but my batteries had died and didn't have my charger and it was Sunday.:)
It was also good to see Dan's Dad for a few hours, Dan's Mom and Grandma too on Saturday and Sunday. We got some good pictures of Great Grandma Durfee and Jaren.

Today Jaren and I went to the Farmers Market in Beaver, PA. We got a large Pumpkin which I will can next week. I have never done a pumpkin and they say it is a lot of work. We will see how it goes. Also we got some beets which I already canned and a Butternut Squash and some Pears.
I am hoping to get some pics of Jaren with the Pumpkin and the little Pumpkin that someone gave Jaren while we were there. He is naping right now so hope he will be in a good mood later to get them done.
My parents got a snow storm yesterday and so they are kind of stuck at home till they clear the roads. We will be making a trip out there in November for Thanksgiving. I have not seen Ken, Aaron and Melissa since July of last year. So it will be wonderful to be together again. We are flying into MT and out of Denver, CO.

I can still remember sitting in class when someone came in and told us what had happened. We all sat there speechless upon hearing the news. We spent the next several days listening to the radio. Something in my heart still hurts and makes me want to cry every Anniversary of this horrible tragedy. I guess that is because I am still an American. Regardless of the shape our country is currently in, this is still my home.

Here are some pictures from Camp. Thanking God for the wonderful services and the victories around the alter. God's presence was so real and close. Rev. England and Rev. David Mayley were the evangelists and Rev. Cary and Catrina Thornton were the Song and Youth envangelists.
We also had a change in leadership on the District. Rev Dan and Carole Brown on left was the D.S. and now Rev. Bryon and Annie Myers are the D.S. Praying for them as they make the adjustments on both sides.

Hi all, just an update on what has been going on in our busy life. Since I last posted we have been to Clinton Camp, Remus Camp in MI and are currently on vacation in MI. Jaren is now almost 15 weeks old and is so the joy of our lives. He laughs so cute now and smiles so much. He is of course growing by leaps and bounds. I will try to get pictures up in the next post. Hope all is well with you.

Update on Jaren

No pictures this time but wanted to let you know that Jaren weighs 12 lbs 5 ozs and 23 1/2 inches long. He also got his first shots this week. He did pretty good and hasn't had any side effects. He is 10 weeks old and is laughing, smiling, cooing and sleeping in his crib which he likes a lot better than his Bassinet.
Mommy on the other hand has had some more rough waters. After running fevers of 103 for 2 days I finally gave in and went to the ER. They gave me antibiotics which I had an allergic reaction to, I am now home with different antibiotic and a bad Urinary Tract Infection.

This last weekend we had Missions convention with the Zack and Sarah Robberts family and Bro. and Sis. Manley. We had really good services and it was good to have the Robberts in our home. It was also good to have the Manleys for supper Sat. night too.

Well in other news in our life. This Mommy had to have surgery again yesterday. My Gallbladder went bad so they had to do surgery on it and also do a liver biopsy. They don't think there is anything to be worried about with the liver but they wanted to check it just to be safe. So Jaren got to go to Sis. Youngs house and be with her from 5am Monday till 3pm today. We sure did miss our little guy but Mommy is still not feeling the greatest. I am doing some better just can't eat much yet. Daddy is being a big help and really doing most of the work.

On Memorial Day we drove from Everett, PA to Chambersburg, PA to have a picnic with Steve and Jeannie Cassidy and Jeremy and Ticia Morford. We had a wonderful time with friends. It had been over a year since seeing the Morfords and almost a year since the Cassidys.

Home at last and other news updates

For those of you who didn't know for the last week we have been in Everett, PA doing a revival. God helped in many ways and we are thankful for that. We also enjoyed our time with the Bryon Myers family.

This was Jaren's 1st trip and he did pretty well considering the new place and all. we had a few not so great nights. He is now 5 1/2 weeks old and starting to lose all his hair on the top of his head. It makes me sad to see him losing it but maybe he won't lose it all.

I will try to post pictures within the next couple of days.

In other news I want to say congrats to my sister on Graduating from college. We are so proud of you Melissa. Also my brother Ken's girlfriend graduated the same day. Congrats to Micaela too. Dan's brother Tim graduated from college also. Congrats to him as well. My nephew Jay graduated from Kindergaten the next day and we are so proud of him on a job well done.

Hi all, Well Jaren is 4 weeks old today. We are so happy with him. He is more alert everyday and night. Last night he decided to be awake a good deal of the night.
In other news Jaren is going to be getting a new cousin today. Dan's brother Tim and his wife are having a baby. They are having a boy. Along with that news Tim and Sarah live in Missouri and Wednesday night while they were at the hospital thinking the baby was going to be born, their home was destroyed by a Tornado. Thankfully they were not at home during the storm.

Jaren had his first dr appt yesterday and everything went well. He weighs 7lbs 5ozs and is 20in long. He is growing very fast. We sure love our little boy! He makes us smile many times and really enjoys being spoiled by friends and family. Uncle Glenn and Aunt Nette and cousins Jay and Lauren are going to be here for a couple days from Montana. He will get really spoiled then. Grandma Hellmann was here for a few days this past weekend to see her first grand baby! Grandma Ritchey leaves for Wyoming on Tues and is not looking forward to leaving her new grandson behind, but she is excited and ready to be home with her Hubby. Pappy is really looking forward to seeing Jaren in June when they come back east.
